A design system to solve and bring structure and clarity, and to define how things look, feel, and behave across every touchpoint.





THE CHALLENGE

EYECUE lacked a structured and unified design system, relying on manual workflows for UX and UI design resulted in inconsistent interfaces, inefficiencies, and communication challenges across teams.

The product team frequently recreated components from scratch for each project, leading to wasted time and a lack of standardization. The absence of centralized style guides and reusable components interfered with the scalability and efficiency of the design process. 

To address these challenges, I developed a comprehensive design system, creating reusable components and establishing consistent style guides that ensured uniformity across all projects. I also introduced a status-colored guide that clearly indicated the stage of each section being worked on. This solution streamlined workflows, enhanced collaboration across teams, and established a consistent, scalable foundation for the company’s design processes. 



GOALS + OBJECTIVES

The primary goal was to streamline the design process by creating a structured and scalable design system that included centralized style guides and reusable components. This aimed to reduce inefficiencies, eliminate the need to recreate design elements manually, and foster consistency across all projects.

Additionally, I introduced a status-colored guide sought to enhance team collaboration by providing clear visibility into the progress and stages of design projects. Ultimately, the objective was to build a foundation for efficient, unified, and scalable design workflows that could support the company’s growth and evolving needs given that EYECUE is a startup we were dealing with a fast-paced environment with quick turnarounds.  



OBSERVATIONS

Since joining EYECUE, my primary focus has been building their Design System. Given the nature of their dashboard and the frequent development of new features, it was crucial to establish comprehensive style guidelines and a robust component library. The existing Figma file was disorganized, with improperly named pages and a lack of structure. While this ad-hoc system allowed the Product Team to rapidly create MVPs and low-fidelity wireframes in EYECUE’s fast-paced environment, it ultimately compromised the quality, consistency, and scalability of the design process. 



OUTCOME

The implementation of the design system yielded significant positive results for EYECUE’s design and product development workflows:
Organized Figma File:

The previously unstructured Figma file was transformed into a well-structured workspace. Despite managing the entire dashboard within a single file, we organized multiple pages with a clear naming and coloring system, making it much easier for the team to navigate and collaborate efficiently. 
Labeling and Tagging System:

I developed a comprehensive labeling system to streamline project tracking and collaboration. This system included tags for identifying who was working on specific sections, the status of each project, descriptions for ongoing work, and indicators for new additions. This improved communication and transparency across teams. 

Established Style Guide:

A centralized style guide was created, which provided clear guidelines for standardizing fonts, font sizes, font colors, button designs, button states, and other UI elements. This enabled the engineering team to implement designs consistently, reducing discrepancies and maintaining a unified look and feel across the product. 
Component Library:

A robust component library was developed, eliminating the need to recreate design elements for each new feature. This allowed the product and design teams to work more efficiently, speeding up prototyping and ensuring consistency in the user interface.

Through these changes, EYECUE’s design system not only improved team collaboration and efficiency but also elevated the overall quality and scalability of the design process. The system has become a vital tool for supporting the company's fast-paced environment and future growth.
